5 Pet-Friendly Window Treatment Options For Your New Home

Posted on: 1 June 2018

If your family is moving into a new home and you are looking for pet-friendly window treatments, here are five options that look great in all home styles:

Option #1: Large Slat Wood or Faux Wood Blinds

Your dogs and cats want to look outside. If you install thin slat vinyl blinds, then your pets will poke their heads through and bend them. However, if you opt for wood or faux wood blinds that have larger slats, then your pets will be able to see outside and will be less prone to try to climb through them. If your cats do try to climb between the slats, they are a lot more sturdy than vinyl blinds and will keep your pet out. If your cat likes to lay on the window sill and look outside, then raise the blinds a bit to give them room.

Option #2: Washable Fabric Curtains

If you do not have cats that will climb curtains or scratch on them but do have a dog that likes to rub their body against your furniture and walls, then washable fabric curtains make a good choice. Rather than installing draperies that need to be professionally cleaned, instead, buy curtains with loops at the top that are easy to remove from the rods and wash.

Option #3: Interior Wood Shutters

If your family's new home has a lot of windows and you are searching for a simple solution you won't have to frequently wash or mess with, then interior wood shutters will work well. If you do not like the look of wood, then painted shutters will match any decor. The shutters are simple to open and close and can be quickly cleaned with a vacuum attachment designed for this purpose.

Option #4: Exterior Home Shutters

If you would prefer to not install interior window treatments at all but your family sometimes needs privacy or protection from storms, then exterior home shutters are a great option. When you want to protect or secure your home, simply close the shutters. Since the shutters are located outdoors, they never come into contact with your pets.

Option #5: Blinds Enclosed Between Window Glass Panes

Finally, if you are moving into an older home and plan to upgrade its old windows, then you should consider having windows installed that have internal blinds. This type of window has shades or blinds that are sandwiched between glass panes where they can't be damaged by claws or slobbered on.

Learning About Residential Windows

Hey there, my name is Deena Orson. Welcome to my site about windows. As the mother of four boys, I have seen my fair share of broken windows, both in our family home and, unfortunately, throughout the neighborhood. As a result, I have a good working relationship with window manufacturers and installers in our area. I have learned all about double and triple paned window systems. I would like to use this site to explore the window manufacturing and installation process in more detail. I will also discuss technological advancements in this industry as they are developed. Please visit my site often to learn more.
