Installing Vinyl Siding On Your Own? 3 Tips To Ensure Your Job Looks Professional

Posted on: 2 August 2017

Vinyl siding can be installed by a professional or by yourself. If you decide to install vinyl siding on your home by yourself, be sure to implement the three tips below to ensure that your job looks like it was done by a professional.

#1 Invest In Wider Starter Strips

The strip of vinyl that runs across the bottom of your house is referred to as the starter strip. This strip of vinyl should be larger than the other strips of vinyl that you use on your home. You want the starter strip to be placed below the foundation. Placing the starter strip below the foundation of your home will help protect your house from damage from rain and snow, as well as pests. Purchase the largest starter strips that you can find. The more protect your home's foundation has, the better of it will be in the long-run.

#2 Create A Corner Cap

When you install corner pieces of vinyl, it is important to cap the corner pieces. If you don't cap the corner pieces, it will be easier for bugs to get into your home via the uncapped corner siding on your home.

It is a simple process to cap the corner of your vinyl. When you have a corner post, cut off the first couple inches of the j-channel, with is the material that runs across the bottom of the corner post. Then, fold the upper part of the corner post upwards to the j-channel, kind of like you are wrapping a present. Use this to create a box like shape that will hug the corner of your home and help keep pests out.

Your corner posts are easier to manipulate in this manner when they are warm. If it is really cold outside, doing this could cause your corner posts to snap and break, so warm your corner posts up a little bit before proceeding.

#3 Use The Right Blade

You are going to need to cut the vinyl siding that you need down to size as you fit the vinyl siding around windows and doors on your home. To make the job of cutting your vinyl siding easier, invest in a blade specifically made to cut vinyl siding for your saw. Switch out the normal wood blade on your saw with your vinyl siding blade. This is not a large investment and will make the process of cutting your vinyl siding go much faster and result in a much smoother cut.

Learning About Residential Windows

Hey there, my name is Deena Orson. Welcome to my site about windows. As the mother of four boys, I have seen my fair share of broken windows, both in our family home and, unfortunately, throughout the neighborhood. As a result, I have a good working relationship with window manufacturers and installers in our area. I have learned all about double and triple paned window systems. I would like to use this site to explore the window manufacturing and installation process in more detail. I will also discuss technological advancements in this industry as they are developed. Please visit my site often to learn more.
