A Simple Method To Clean Windows

Posted on: 26 July 2017

To clean large and small windows on your residence or business you need to have the right tools. Here is a list of tools and a simple method to clean interior and exterior windows:

Gather Your Tools: You will need the following tools that you can obtain at a hardware or building supply store:

Microfiber Mop: This mop has a thick microfiber scrubbing pad with a perpendicular handle. The microfiber mop attaches to the handle with Velcro strips so it can be removed and washed when necessary. A telescoping extension pole can be attached to the handle for large windows.

Squeegee: The squeegee has a metal channel that holds a flat piece of rubber that is used to wipe a window after it has been covered with cleaning solution. The squeegee is attached to a short handle and can also be used with a telescoping extension pole when needed.

Razor Blade Scraper: This small hand tool has a retractable single-edge razor blade that you can slide out to remove dirt and debris from your window glass. You can retract the blade with a lever on the side of the scraper when not in use.

Water Pail: Use a rectangular water pail that is large enough to hold your microfiber mop and squeegee.

Paper Towels: You will need paper towels to wipe your squeegee and for final clean up.

Make Your Own Cleaning Solution: You can make your own cleaning solution with a few simple household ingredients. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap, and 8 cups of water in a large bowl. Combine the ingredients thoroughly and pour into a spray bottle. Fill another spray bottle with clear water for rinsing your windows.

Apply Cleaning Solution: Wet the microfiber mop with clear water and squeeze out any excess. Spray the mop with the cleaning solution and wipe the entire window pane to from top to bottom with the mop. Scrub the glass with the mop and pay special attention to any areas that have hard-to-remove debris. To clean these areas, use a razor blade scraper to loosen the dirt. Once you have scrubbed the entire pane, spray some clear water on it to begin to remove the solution.

Use The Squeegee: With the squeegee, start at one of the upper corners of the window pane and wipe in long sweeping motions from side to side and top to bottom. Be sure to wipe all the way to the frame with each squeegee pass. After a few strokes, wipe the edge of the squeegee with a paper towel to absorb some of the liquid.

Clean Up And Polish: Once you have removed the cleaning solution, wipe the entire window pane with a paper towel to polish the glass. Also, wipe the edges of the window frame to get rid of any drips and splatters.

It is best to wash your windows when they are not in direct sunlight as the heat from the sun can dry the cleaning solution before it can be removed with the squeegee. When using this method on interior windows, place a towel on the floor to catch any drips or splashes. If you have extra cleaning solution after you finish, it can be saved in the spray bottle and used whenever needed. With a few tools, simple ingredients, and some elbow grease you can have sparkling clean windows throughout your residence or business.

Learning About Residential Windows

Hey there, my name is Deena Orson. Welcome to my site about windows. As the mother of four boys, I have seen my fair share of broken windows, both in our family home and, unfortunately, throughout the neighborhood. As a result, I have a good working relationship with window manufacturers and installers in our area. I have learned all about double and triple paned window systems. I would like to use this site to explore the window manufacturing and installation process in more detail. I will also discuss technological advancements in this industry as they are developed. Please visit my site often to learn more.
